![]() The default view mode is set to details details lists the file name, size, modification dates and time, and attributes by default. You may switch the view mode independently for each panel, change sort parameters, or add and remove columns. There you find options to jump to system folders such as Documents or OneDrive, to another drive, run network or FTP operations, and even display the Registry. Altap Salamander supports a handful of shortcuts that you display with a click on the drive icon next to the address field. You may double-click on folders to navigate or type or paste paths directly in the address fields displayed above each panel. The program displays a two-panel interface on start that resembles other file managers and most FTP clients. Installation of Altap Salamander holds no surprises you can place a shortcut in the Start Menu and on the Desktop if you want. Tip: you can also run the original Windows File Manager on Windows if you like. The program is free to download and use, even for commercial purposes, and that includes all plugins the program comes with. The program is provided as a 32-bit and 64-bit version that will run on all supported versions of the Windows operating system starting with Windows 7. Editing multiple images in place by simply selecting them, and choosing from a context menu will greatly enhance the value of pictview by providing a set of features that other viewers cannot. The file manager resembles other popular third-party file management solutions such as Multi Commander, Total Commander or Double Commander. Please consider the ctrl-right-click option I mentioned, to perform operations that do not require the pictview window to be open. A good example is the thumbnail view of pictview. A tightly integrated plugin will modify SS's behavior, not simply pop up another window, and this is what makes a plugin valuable. But other programs cannot integrate into Salamander, and that's what makes me want to use the plugin. Making a plugin that essentially acts as a standalone program defeats the purpose.Other than a menu entry in the host, there is no advantage to using it over another standalone program, and so the choice comes down to a simple comparison of feature sets. The main advantage of a plugin is how it integrates with the host program. Please keep posting ideas and requests so that we can decide what to do.įor me, the integration issue that I mentioned in the first post of the thread is the most important. ![]() Or you could put the viewer in the user menu instead (too). ![]() Then close the configuration dialog, find a file with that extension, and press Alt-F4 (or hold down Alt and click the AltViewer button on the bottom button bar). Remember to move the entry ABOVE the default "*.*" entry or it won't work! Try one of the mentioned tools instead! They are very powerful.Īfter installing the viewer of your choice, go to Salamander's Configuration->Alternate Viewers, start a new item with the extensions you require ("*.jpg *.png *.bmp *.gif", for instance) and fill in the appropriate values for viewer, path, etc. So until PictView displays directly in the opposite panel, in my opinion there is no compelling reason to use it for bitmap viewing. I originally thought about asking for this stuff too, but since PictView only shows in a floating window, it really behaves the same way as (but with *much* less functionality than) XnView, IrfanView, PhotoFiltre, et al, under the same circumstances. ![]()
